About Munàh
Leadership begins within.
I’m Munàh, an Inner Leadership Mentor, Transformational Speaker, Storyteller, and Founder of Munàh Global and the Kriola Di Força movement.
I help women develop the self-awareness, clarity and inner leadership to take greater ownership of their lives personally and professionally and move forward with greater intention, confidence and purpose. My approach is grounded in lived experience, professional leadership and more than two decades of working with people and communities through different stages of change, growth and transition.
THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE WORK
Leadership entered my life long before I had the language for it.
From a young age, circumstances required me to take responsibility, make decisions and navigate situations that asked me to grow quickly. I became a mother at 15 and, by 17, a single mother of two. At 19, I moved from Portugal to the United Kingdom and began building a new chapter of my life.
In those early years, leadership was largely about necessity, responding to what life placed in front of me and finding a way forward.
As I grew, that began to change.
I started to understand that leadership was not only about managing responsibility or responding to circumstances. It was also about choice becoming aware of who I was, taking ownership of my decisions and intentionally shaping the direction of my life.
That shift would influence both my personal and professional journey.
My professional journey began in community-based information, advice, and guidance, supporting people navigating barriers to education, access, and opportunity. That early commitment to addressing inequalities became a thread that would continue throughout my career.
At 34, as a mother of four, I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Midwifery and went on to build more than 15 years of experience within UK healthcare. I became one of the first midwives in the UK to hold a specialist role focused on addressing healthcare inequalities affecting Black, Asian and minority ethnic women, before progressing into senior leadership. My healthcare career and published professional work can also be found under my legal name, Maria Benedetti.
At 40, I made another intentional choice: to pursue a creative ambition I had carried since childhood and begin a new chapter through music and storytelling.
Across very different seasons of my life, I began to recognise the same principle:
My circumstances could influence my life, but I could choose how I responded to them and how I moved forward.
That is the foundation of what I now call Inner Leadership: moving from simply responding to life to consciously participating in the direction of it.
MY APPROACH TO INNER LEADERSHIP
For me, Inner Leadership is not an abstract concept. It is something I have had to learn, practise, and continue to develop in my own life.
It begins with self-awareness: understanding who we are, recognising the experiences and patterns that influence us, taking responsibility for the choices within our control, and developing the clarity and confidence to act intentionally.
I work with women who are ready for more than inspiration, women who are willing to reflect honestly, take ownership, and make meaningful changes in their personal and professional lives.
My role is not to tell a woman who she should become or what her life should look like. It is to create the space, challenge, and support that help her become clearer about who she is, what she wants, and what she is willing to do to move forward.
My faith, lived experience, and years of professional and community leadership continue to shape the way I approach this work.
Transformation begins with awareness. Leadership begins within.
FROM EXPERIENCE TO ECOSYSTEM
As I learned to lead my own life more intentionally, I began to recognise that the principles of Inner Leadership were present across every part of my journey.
Self-awareness helped me understand who I was. Clarity helped me make different decisions. Taking ownership allowed me to move beyond simply responding to circumstances and begin shaping the direction of my life with greater intention.
Those principles influenced how I developed professionally, how I led others, how I pursued new possibilities and how I used my voice.
Over time, that work found different expressions.
Through mentoring, I support women to develop their own Inner Leadership. Through speaking, I use reflection and storytelling to challenge perspectives and create conversations that lead to awareness and action. Through music, storytelling becomes another way to explore identity, culture, voice and transformation.
Kriolas later became the seed for the Kriola Di Força Movement, extending that work into community, belonging and social impact.
What emerged was not a collection of unrelated projects, but one interconnected vision.
Munàh Global is the ecosystem that brings that vision together creating different pathways for transformation, leadership and impact.
